Supporting GA Families: Funding Diaper Assistance for a Stronger Future
Strong families are the foundation of a strong future. Yet, 44.9% of Georgia's children under the age of three live in families earning less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, making it difficult for many parents to afford enough diapers. The Georgia Diaper Bank Coalition is requesting the inclusion of a budget allocation of $1.5m in the Governor’s Budget for Fiscal Year 2027 to fund Georgia’s critical diaper bank programs. This is a pro-workforce solution that keeps parents in jobs and keeps children clean, dry, and healthy.
PRO-FAMILY & PRO-WORKFORCE POLICY
Nearly 1 in 2 families struggle to afford enough diapers, preventing parents from working as most daycares require parents to provide diapers. These parents end up missing work, losing an average of 5.1 days per month. Without diapers, parents can’t stay employed, limiting their economic contribution and self-sufficiency.

Funding Georgia’s critical diaper bank programs is a fiscally responsible, pro-workforce solution that keeps parents in jobs and reduces healthcare costs.
Babies without clean diapers face higher risks of infection, leading to increased Medicaid spending and hospital strain.

Addressing diaper need will strengthen Georgia’s workforce, lower Medicaid costs, reduce taxpayer burdens, and support strong families.

WHEN FAMILIES HAVE ACCESS TO DIAPER ASSISTANCE, IT BOOSTS THE ECONOMY.
Low-income families are spending up to 14% of their income on diapers. When they receive diaper assistance, they have more disposable income to spend on other necessities (food, housing, transportation).
This, combined with an increased workforce, supports local businesses, boosts sales tax revenue, and stimulates Georgia’s economy.
"I’m a mother of three, with two in diapers, and a huge portion of my budget goes toward diaper costs. Help with diapers will relieve stress drastically for households."
